UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Extension will offer “Home Food Preservation: Water Bath Canning” from noon to 1:30 p.m. on May 21, online.

Explore the fundamentals of water bath and atmospheric steam canning with Penn State extension educators specializing in food, safety and quality in this 90-minute live webinar. 

As interest in preserving homegrown and seasonal foods continues to grow, this method offers a safe and effective way to enjoy fresh flavors year-round. Whether you are new to canning or looking to refine your skills, this program will provide essential techniques and best practices to ensure safe, high-quality results.

What will you learn?

  • Basics of water bath and atmospheric steam canning.
  • Canning recommendations, based on the latest USDA guidelines, on acidifying tomatoes, use of salt and sugar.
  • Principles of water bath canning high-acid foods such as tomatoes, pickles, salsa, fruits, jams, and jellies.
