MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — Applications are now being accepted from interested Penn State students, faculty and staff for the Women in Tech Mentoring program, offered through a partnership with the Technology Council of Central Pennsylvania (TCCP)

The seven-month program pairs undergraduate students majoring in technology-related disciplines with experienced professionals working in tech from TCCP. In addition to one-on-one mentoring, participants engage in monthly virtual group discussions covering topics such as effective communication, post-graduation planning, personal branding, networking in the tech industry, and negotiation skills.

Despite progress, women continue to be underrepresented in the tech workforce, making up only about 25% of the field, according to Forbes magazine.

“This program aims to help bridge that gap by connecting students with established industry professionals and offering targeted programming that fosters self-confidence, resilience, and career readiness to help create the next generation of tech leaders,” said Roderick Lee, associate professor of information systems, and affiliate associate professor of information sciences and technology at Penn State Harrisburg.

Penn State faculty and staff across all campuses are invited to apply to serve as mentors; Penn State students can apply to be matched with a mentor.

Those interested must apply by noon on Friday, Sept. 12. Space is limited. The program is free, but applicants must commit to participation in the full seven-month program.

Faculty and staff can apply to be a mentor here.

This initiative builds on a broader effort led by Penn State Harrisburg to expand access to TCCP programming across all Penn State campuses, creating opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to engage with the tech community.
