MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — Penn State Harrisburg, founded in 1966, will mark its 60th anniversary with celebratory events on campus Sept. 17-19. The college has also named a Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream flavor to honor the milestone.

The upcoming events cap off a year of celebration that has honored the campus’ rich history and growth, while looking ahead to continued innovation, research, and expansion.

Campus celebrations

Alumni and Campus Celebration Day will be held Saturday, Sept. 19, with events on campus throughout the day beginning at 11 a.m.

Events include a field hockey game, alumni reunions, campus tours, a community art project, bathtub races, family fun activities, and musical performances. The complete schedule can be found on the 60th anniversary website.

In addition, the annual Alumni Awards Ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, and Athletics Hall of Fame inductions will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18.

Events are open to the public, but registration is requested. Register online here for all of the events.

Sweet Sixty Swirl

To honor the campus milestone, the cookies-n-cream flavor at Penn State Berkey Creamery has been temporarily renamed “Sweet Sixty Swirl.”

Sweet Sixty Swirl will be available through October. It can be purchased at Stacks Market and Outpost on campus, at the Creamery at University Park, and online. It will also be available at a free ice cream social during Alumni and Campus Celebration Day.

Campus community members suggested names for the flavor takeover and voted for a winner in the spring.
