UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State instructors seeking practical ways to better support neurodivergent students in their classrooms can take part in upcoming sessions hosted by the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence.
The Schreyer Institute will offer “10+ Strategies for Supporting Neurodivergent Students” in October, with options to attend virtually or in person. Registration is available for either or both sessions at schreyerinstitute.psu.edu.
- Wednesday, Oct. 8, noon to 1 p.m., via Zoom
- Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2 to 3:30 p.m., Dewey Room, Pattee Library (W043 Pattee)
The workshops will be led by Jennifer Pusateri, a universal design consultant at the University of Kentucky’s Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching. Pusateri will introduce the concept of neurodivergence, highlight the strengths of neurodivergent learners and share more than 10 evidence-based strategies that instructors can use immediately to support students in their courses.
In addition to her role at Kentucky, Pusateri is a member of the CAST National Faculty and the author of “Transform Your Teaching with Universal Design for Learning: Six Steps to Jumpstart Your Practice.” She regularly leads workshops nationwide on accessibility and inclusive teaching practices and has been featured on podcasts such as “Think UDL” and “Teaching in Higher Ed.”
