UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence, in collaboration with Teaching and Learning with Technology, will offer a summer institute for faculty on artificial intelligence (AI) literacy.

"AI Literacy Institute: Designing for Learning" will allow participants to explore how to incorporate AI use into assignments and learning activities or how to constrain AI use when needed. Faculty are encouraged to apply as two- to three-person teams from their department or campus or as individuals. The institute includes a two-day intensive workshop in May, opportunities for individual or small group consultations throughout the summer, and a showcase in early August.

During the institute, participants will:

  • Review Penn State’s AI literacy framework.
  • Discuss AI-related teaching challenges and opportunities.
  • Explore Penn State-approved AI tools.
  • Meet with facilitators for one-on-one consultations throughout the summer as needed to develop or revise assignments and activities.
  • Share their new or revised assignment or activity with the summer institute community.

This in-person program is for Penn State faculty of any rank or title, at any Penn State location. The cohort will meet at University Park on May 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and May 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The showcase will be Aug. 4 from 10 a.m. to noon via Zoom.

Travel funding will be available for those from campuses other than University Park.

Space is limited. Apply here by March 6. The application will ask for a brief outline of what applicants would like to accomplish.

Questions can be directed to Jessie Driver, instructional designer at TLT, at jcb5021@psu.edu; or Logan Harvey, research faculty at the Schreyer Institute, ljh5825@psu.edu.
