Penn State names Andrew Peck as first assistant dean for academic integrity

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State has named Andrew Peck as the first assistant dean for academic integrity. This newly established position within the Office of Undergraduate Education will provide University-wide leadership on one of higher education's most pressing challenges.

Peck will lead Penn State's Academic Integrity Responsibilities Office, known as AIRO, and serve as the principal authority on academic integrity policy, adjudication and education across all the University's campuses and colleges. He will report to Jeff Adams, senior associate vice provost and senior associate dean for Undergraduate Education.

“Academic integrity is foundational to the value of a Penn State degree," said Fotis Sotiropoulos, executive vice president and provost. “Having Andrew in this position ensures we have dedicated, expert leadership to uphold those standards consistently and equitably across every campus. The work that our faculty, staff and administrators do around academic integrity often goes unnoticed but is crucial to our long-term success and reputation.”

As assistant dean, Peck will oversee the development and revision of University-wide academic integrity policies and procedures and lead outreach and training initiatives for faculty, staff and students. He will also manage AIRO's Digital Academic Integrity System, known as DAISY, which tracks and manages claims across the University.

Peck has served as the interim assistant dean for academic integrity for Undergraduate Education since 2023 and as a teaching professor of psychology at Penn State since 1998. He said he is looking forward to continuing to collaborate with colleges and campuses, Faculty Senate, the University Academic Integrity Leadership Community, the Administrative Council on Undergraduate Education and the Fox Graduate School, among others.

“As we start to build this office, I’m going to do a lot of listening,” Peck said. “The goal is to build an office dedicated to education, academic equity and collaboration. Partnering with those who are already doing work in the academic integrity space at Penn State, and empowering educators, will help us achieve that goal at scale.”

Peck said academic integrity policies and education must evolve at a rapid pace to keep up with technological advancements.

“Academic integrity information used to change slowly,” Peck said. “With the rise of generative AI, academic integrity information must be living information. It needs to be updated regularly to ensure fairness and consistency across the University.”
