Applications now open for Penn State Emerging Leaders program

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Human Resources is currently accepting applications for the spring and fall 2026 sessions of the Penn State Emerging Leaders (PSEL) program. The deadline to apply is Sept. 30.

The PSEL program is designed for full-time University staff members who are interested in developing their leadership skills. The program focuses on identifying and developing attributes of effective leadership. The program is open to staff members at any Penn State location.

Relaunched as a fully virtual program in 2023, the PSEL program incorporates instructor-led seminars, assessments and self-directed learning activities. Participants will establish their personal leadership philosophy and development goals as part of the program.

To be eligible for PSEL, applicants cannot be a manager, must be in their current role at the University for at least one year, and must be an employee in good standing.

Applicants will be notified if they have been selected, and for which session, by November 2025. Each session accepts up to 25 participants.

“Since its relaunch, we’ve had 152 participants complete our Emerging Leaders program. It’s a great opportunity for those in non-managerial positions, to foster and develop the skills necessary to become great leaders — not only in their current role, but as these individuals grow and develop in their career with Penn State,” said Christy Helms, Penn State Human Resources senior director for talent management.

The PSEL program is part of Penn State’s broader Leadership Foundations catalog of programs designed to offer learning and development resources for leaders in all stages of their career.
