UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Department of Electrical Engineering recently hosted the Semiconductor Technologies and Photonics Workshop June 2-3 at the Eric J. Barron Innovation Hub at Penn State University Park.
The two-day event brought together experts from industry and academia to collaborate and share leading-edge research and developments in semiconductors and photonics — technologies found at the core of devices like smartphones, computers and radar systems.
The workshop celebrated a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Penn State College of Engineering and the National Sun Yat-Sen University (NSYSU) in Taiwan College of Engineering and College of Semiconductor & Advanced Technology Research, which was signed in April 2024 with the goal of strengthening the partnership by mapping out collaborative educational and research opportunities.
“The workshop showcases Penn State’s leadership in semiconductor and photonics research and serves as a great platform to build upon the collaborative goals of our MOU with NSYSU,” said Madhavan Swaminathan, department head of electrical engineering at Penn State and director of the Center for Heterogeneous Integration of Micro Electronic Systems (CHIMES).
Drawing more than 130 guests, the workshop included plenary talks, technical presentations, panel discussions, a student poster session and lab tours.
