College of Education honors outstanding faculty, staff, students

The College of Education held its annual Faculty, Staff and Student Awards reception on Monday, March 30 at the Graduate hotel in State College, Pennsylvania. UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State College of Education recently honored several faculty, staff and students during its annual awards ceremony, held March 30 at the Graduate hotel in State College.

Award winners, other than the Cotterill Leadership Award winners, which are chosen by College of Education Dean Gwendolyn Lloyd, were selected from among those nominated by their peers by the College of Education Awards Committee.

Below is a list of this year’s award winners.

  • Career Achievement Award: David McNaughton, professor of special education, Department of Educational Psychology, Counseling and Special Education.
  • Climate Enhancement Award: Peggy Fitzgerald, instructor of education in curriculum and instruction, Department of Curriculum and Instruction.
  • Outstanding Early Career Teaching Award: Carmen Vanderhoof, associate teaching professor of education, Department of Curriculum and Instruction.
  • Outstanding Teaching Award: Brittany Aronson, associate professor of education, Department of Curriculum and Instruction; and Karen Paulson, coordinator of online programs and teaching professor of education, Department of Education Policy Studies.
  • Outstanding Early Career Researcher Award: Sophia Ángeles, assistant professor of education, Department of Curriculum and Instruction; and Mariah Harmon, assistant professor of education, Department of Curriculum and Instruction.
  • Outstanding Researcher Award: Kelly Rosinger, associate professor of education and public policy, Department of Education Policy Studies.
  • Outstanding Staff Award: Jeff Remington, outreach liaison, Center for Science and the Schools; and Renee Carbonara, financial associate, Department of Curriculum and Instruction.
  • Graduate Student Recognition Award: Joseph Sturm, doctoral candidate in higher education; and Chen Su, doctoral candidate in curriculum and instruction.
  • Undergraduate Student Leadership and Service Award: Mark Marquez, a middle level education (social studies) major.
  • The Cotterill Leadership Award: Julia Plummer, professor of science education, Department of Curriculum and Instruction.

The awards committee co-chairs were Elizabeth Hughes, associate professor and chair of the College of Education Faculty Council, and Candace Claar, assistant teaching professor. Members of the committee included Madison Allen Kuyenga, assistant professor of learning, design and technology; Jane Abourezk, academic adviser; Hailey Bowers, graduate student; and Delaney Stedge, undergraduate student.
