CARLISLE AND UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Dickinson Law recently launched a new Master of Legal Studies (M.L.S.) degree program aimed at aspiring leaders and professionals seeking legal knowledge to help advance their careers. The program will provide a strong foundation in the U.S. legal system, public policy and the regulatory frameworks that shape institutions, organizations and society.
“Legal and regulatory issues shape nearly every industry, making this knowledge a competitive advantage for today’s professionals,” said Penn State Dickinson Law Dean and Donald J. Farage Professor of Law Danielle M. Conway. “We are proud to create a program to help recent college graduates and working professionals deepen their understanding of the law, strengthen their leadership capabilities, and advance their careers. The flexible format allows students to balance their education with existing professional responsibilities.”
Penn State Dickinson Law designed the M.L.S. for students and professionals in a wide variety of fields who work closely with lawyers, handle legal-adjacent issues, or require a deeper understanding of the regulations governing their work. The 30-credit program allows students to choose from an array of online classes, enabling concentration in various legal areas. The inaugural Administration, Regulation, and Compliance track establishes a strong foundation for future program growth. The final Capstone Simulation course requires three to four full days of in-person instruction in Carlisle or University Park.
“Today’s professionals are increasingly expected to understand the legal and regulatory issues that influence their work. An M.L.S. from Penn State Dickinson Law provides the knowledge and perspective to navigate those complexities with confidence, creating value across industries and at every stage of their professional journey,” said Amanda DiPolvere, associate dean for enrollment, admissions, and graduate and international programs.
The M.L.S. program will have three start dates each year: fall, spring, and summer. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with an Oct. 1, 2026, deadline for students wishing to start the program in January 2027.
