CARLISLE, Pa. — The Antiracist Development Institute (ADI) at Penn State Dickinson Law is launching a new, noncredit Antiracist Leadership Certificate. The course will be available Oct. 8–10 at the Penn State Dickinson Law Carlisle location during the ADI’s Third Annual Convening.
This first industry-specific offering is tailored to the law enforcement community, which includes anyone in or adjacent to the industry, such as police officers, probation and parole officers, community co-responders, and/or anyone providing administrative or supervisory support for these roles.
During the certificate training, participants will learn and practice design thinking as a problem-solving tool, with an emphasis on empathy. The course will run 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and take place in tandem with the ADI’s Third Annual Convening. The cost of the course is $529.
The certificate is the product of work performed by one of the ADI’s five “PODs,” aka University-wide working groups comprising faculty, staff, administrators and students. The PODS are developing projects to disrupt systemic racial inequality and intersectional injustice, and all have made significant progress on their goals.
The Antiracist Leadership Certificate POD held a pilot for the program at the Carlisle Police Department in July.
Those interested or who want to learn more about navigating this complex field using an antiracist lens, can fill out this interest form. Those with questions can contact POD member Jamie Merida, interim director of continuing education and education program specialist at Penn State Lehigh Valley, jmerida@psu.edu; or ADI Education Program Coordinator Serena Hermitt at sfh5859@psu.edu.
