Student Disability Resources to celebrate 35 years of the ADA with July 25 events

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Student Disability Resources is inviting all members of the University community to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) with two events on Friday, July 25.

The first event, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the lawn between Boucke and Ritenour buildings at University Park, will feature free Berkey Creamery ice cream, games and giveaways, raffle prizes, and the opportunity to learn more about the ADA’s impact and celebrate 35 years of progress toward accessibility and inclusion.

Student Disability Resources also will host a screening of the Netflix documentary “Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution” at 7:30 p.m. July 25 in the Attic at The State Theatre in downtown State College. Admission is free, but seating is limited, so those interested in attending are encouraged to register in advance online. Doors will open at 7 p.m.

Signed by President George H. W. Bush on July 26, 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act was the world's first comprehensive civil rights law prohibiting discrimination against individuals with disabilities.

Student Disability Resources is part of the Office of the Vice Provost for Educational Equity.
