UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa — The preliminary assessment of the incident that took place at the Susan Welch Liberal Arts Building yesterday (Nov. 12) indicates that the damage is the result of a localized structural issue. No foul play is suspected.
Engineers from the Office of Physical Plant as well as outside experts will conduct a full examination to definitively determine the cause of the damage. The building is currently closed.
The Registrar has communicated with instructors whose classes have been impacted by the loss of classroom space. Students who had classes in that building should watch for communication from their instructors regarding the location and format of their classes for the rest of the fall semester.
The Registrar has published a detailed list of impacted classes and their alternative arrangements online. Students are advised that information about their specific class should come from their instructor and supersedes the information published online.
Employees whose workspaces are normally in the Welch Building will receive information on their work arrangement from their unit/department head or supervisor.
