UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Homecoming aims to honor its 105-year legacy with a modern look when it unveils a new overall logo at a celebration event on Aug. 26.
The new logo featuring a modern font was inspired by a pennant — an object that represents a longstanding and timeless piece of collegiate imagery. It replaces the current logo, which displays the Old Main bell tower and has been used for more than 20 years.
“Homecoming is something that encompasses all of Penn State, from students to alumni to community members — all of whom have their own memories and traditions from the University,” said Terrell Hoffman, Homecoming adviser and student engagement specialist in Student Leadership and Involvement, a unit of Student Affairs. “I hope that the new logo brings feelings of comfort and nostalgia, taking you back to whatever your own unique Penn State story is.”
According to Ethan Lemin, executive director of Penn State Homecoming, the new logo is part of a larger student-led effort to rebrand the organization.
“As an organization that celebrates the pride, traditions and community of Penn State, we needed a fresh approach to reenergize and reengage the campus,” Lemin said. “Our goal was to create a new logo that is modern and versatile, while calling back to our traditions. The new logo featuring a pennant, which carries nostalgic tradition, also incorporates cleaner lines and bold typography, making it versatile and modern. It’s the perfect way to honor our history while creating something that will represent Homecoming for years to come.”
Hoffman, Lemin and the Homecoming executive board collaborated with the Office of Strategic Communications to conceptualize and create designs. More than 200 student members of Penn State Homecoming reviewed the designs and selected the new logo.
“Being a part of this creative process is incredibly special to me,” said Lemin. “Coming from a family with Penn State alums, I grew up hearing my parents, aunts, uncles and family friends share stories from their time at Penn State. These memories, and the traditions they represent, are the heart of Homecoming and the reason we continue these celebrations each year. The fresh, modern logo was designed to be a symbol meant to unite generations through the shared pride of being part of the Penn State community.”
Giveaways featuring the new logo will available to fans at the State College Spikes game at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The new logo will be displayed on the Jumbotron during the game, and attendees can participate in other activities celebrating the push toward Homecoming 2025.
Following the launch, the new logo will be featured on homecoming.psu.edu and displayed on other signage and material beginning this fall.
Penn State Homecoming Week 2025 will take place Oct. 5-11, leading up to the football game against Northwestern. For more information on Homecoming events and traditions, visit homecoming.psu.edu.
