UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Events are being offered for Penn State campus and community members around the commonwealth in remembrance of those who lost their lives during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and their aftermath.
Penn State University Park
Flag placements on the Old Main lawn — Monday, Sept. 8, 7 p.m., Old Main lawn. College Republicans at Penn State will lead the placement of 2,977 American flags on the Old Main lawn to honor each victim of the 9/11 attacks. Members of the Penn State and local community are invited to participate. The flags will be on display through 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12.
Memorial service — Thursday, Sept. 11, 5 p.m., Old Main lawn. College Republicans at Penn State will host a memorial service to honor the victims of the 9/11 attacks.
Penn State Harrisburg
9/11 Never Forget Project – Monday, Sept. 8, noon-1 p.m., Vartan Plaza. Join Penn State Harrisburg’s Chapter of Young Americans for Freedom in remembering those lost in the tragic 9/11 terrorist attacks. Attendees will help create a memorial with 2,977 flags to remember each person who lost their life.
Penn State Lehigh Valley
Memorial service — Thursday, Sept. 11, 12:15 p.m., at the flag pole on campus. Penn State Lehigh Valley will hold a brief memorial at the flag pole, hosted by Student Affairs and the Student Government Association.
Penn State Scranton
Annual 9/11 Commemoration Event — Thursday, Sept. 11, 8:30-11 a.m. on the SLC patio. Monologues will be read at each significant time of the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, in New York, the Pentagon and Shanksville, and victims will be honored.
