UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) will provide free gameday shuttle service for service members during Penn State’s upcoming Military Appreciation Game.
During the home football game against the University of Minnesota on Nov. 14, service members and veterans can ride CATA’s gameday shuttle for free with military identification. Those ages 65 and older are also eligible for free rides with a valid Senior Transit ID card. Shuttles will run roundtrip from Hills Plaza along South Atherton Street, Easterly Parkway, and University Drive to Beaver Stadium. Shuttle service begins three hours prior to kickoff and concludes one hour after the game finishes.
“CATA is pleased to again partner with Penn State to recognize the service of military members and veterans,” said CATA CEO Todd Horsley. “We are honored to provide a free ride to the Military Appreciation Day football game for our veterans and active-duty military members who have given so much for our country.”
No reservations are required, but service members must show a form of military ID to the bus operator or a CATA supervisor. Approved forms of identification include:
- Driver’s license (will need to show the American flag with the word “veteran” underneath)
- VA card
- Military ID
- CAC (Common Access Card active-duty ID)
"This is the second year Penn State Military Appreciation is partnering with CATA on providing free transportation to service members and veterans to the Military Appreciation Football Game," said Penn State Military Appreciation Committee Chair Eugene McFeely. "We are grateful for CATA's generosity as they honor our service members’ and veterans’ military service in this way."
For non-service members, regular fares for gameday shuttles are $2.50 per one-way trip. Riders are encouraged to visit CATA’s website for parking and specific stop information.
