MEDIA, Pa. — Penn State alumna Michelle Haskins, class of 2000, has been elected president of the Brandywine Alumni Society, effective July 1. The Brandywine Alumni Society is an official campus alumni society of the Penn State Alumni Association that provides a platform for networking, mentoring, volunteering and contributing to the future success of Penn State Brandywine.
“When I found out I was going to be Alumni Society president, I was excited and ready to get started. I started drafting agendas and thinking of ways to standardize processes immediately,” Haskins said. “There has been a lot of great work done by those before me and I am so excited to build upon what is already in place.”
Haskins majored in telecommunications during her time at Penn State and attended University Park for the majority of her college journey. After obtaining a paid internship in Philadelphia during her final semester, she completed her final credits at Brandywine, previously known as Penn State Delaware County.
Haskins joined the Brandywine Alumni Society in 2019 after receiving an invitation to Brunch with the Board, an event the organization holds to bring alumni back to campus and meet with the executive board. Since she wanted to be involved with Penn State on a more local level, she decided to join the organization.
After serving on the Alumni Society for seven years, Haskins decided to run for president, noting that she wants to help alumni connect with students and the campus.
“The Brandywine Alumni Society has a great group of dedicated volunteers with the potential to make a meaningful impact. My plan is to maximize that potential with a strategy that will help the society achieve its goals of connecting alumni to each other and to the Brandywine campus,” she said.
During her time as president, Haskins wants to ensure that the organization’s programs, partnerships and collaborative efforts are grounded in alumni networking, student mentorship, volunteerism, and campus advancement and advocacy.
“These pillars will serve as the foundation for our annual programming and help us measure the impact and effectiveness of our efforts. As we develop our calendar for the coming year, I am excited to create opportunities that foster meaningful engagement in each of these areas,” she explained.
“In terms of new initiatives, I hope to grow the society by expanding ways alumni can be involved. By offering a variety of engagement opportunities that accommodate different interests, schedules and levels of commitment, we can create a more inclusive and dynamic alumni society while strengthening connections to the University and one another.”
Beyond her involvement in the Brandywine Alumni Society, Haskins owns Choice Insurance Solutions LLC, an independent insurance agency.
