MEDIA, Pa. — Gemma Rapone joined Penn State Brandywine as a part-time administrative assistant for athletics and student affairs in August. Getting back into the workforce after being a stay-at-home mom, Rapone is looking forward to growing as a professional and getting to know the Brandywine community.

“I am thrilled to have Gemma join our staff! She brings a lot of positive energy and a bright smile to the department each day,” said Bobbi Caprice, director of athletics. “She has jumped in at the busiest time of our year, but has done so gracefully.”

Rapone graduated with her bachelor’s degree in strategic and organizational communications from Temple University and went on to do administrative work for a health agency. She then worked as a resource manager at a technology company before becoming a stay-at-home mom. As she lives close to the campus and wanted to work in academia, she felt working at Penn State Brandywine would be a great opportunity.

“The campus is beautiful, and it’s local to me. This opportunity fell into my lap at a perfect moment in my life when I was ready to get back into the workforce,” she said. “Part-time was exactly what fit my schedule right now. Also, after meeting with everyone during the interview process, I felt welcomed. I felt at home here.”

In terms of her goals, Rapone wants to grow as a professional.

“I want to grow professionally. I want to not only have the motherhood role but also have a position in a professional setting,” she said. “I’m looking forward to growing as a professional, building relationships within the Brandywine community, and learning more about Penn State.”

Outside of work, Rapone enjoys going down to the shore, spending time with family and friends, attending her kids’ sporting events, seeing live music, reading and going on nature walks.
