MEDIA, Pa. — The Penn State Brandywine Office of Strategic Communications released a new episode of the “We Are Chattin’” podcast on Oct. 7, featuring Vinny Gallo and Matt Duffey, head baseball and women’s soccer coaches at Penn State Brandywine.
Gallo, a Brandywine alumnus and 11-year head baseball coach, and Duffey, first-season head coach of women’s soccer, talked with student hosts Natalie DiMario and Mary Kate Cosgrove about the upcoming Building Our Field of Dreams fundraiser on Nov. 7, which aims to raise funds to help build new turf baseball, softball and soccer fields on campus. The fundraiser will feature a keynote address from Larry Bowa, former Philadelphia Phillies shortstop, third-base coach and manager.
“This improvement isn't just going to help our baseball team, our softball team, our soccer team, but it's going to bring more people in. It's going to bring more events in. The student experience will improve, and then having people on campus in the summer when teams aren’t using it will help bring more people to our campus,” Gallo said.
“The thing that I was impressed with is the basketball courts and the tennis courts and everything like that. They're always being used, which I think is great. Same type of thing with the turf fields. It'll give them an opportunity to go out and kick the soccer ball around when you know the fields aren't flooded,” Duffey added.
“It's just another way to draw people in. It's another way to give people the opportunity to see what our school has to offer and what our athletic programs have to offer.”
