MEDIA, Pa. — Penn State Brandywine’s food pantry, located in the Center for Social Impact on the lower level of the John D. Vairo Building, has reopened since acquiring new leadership in the spring. Under the supervision of Kenneth Murphy, Center for Social Impact coordinator, the pantry is available for students Monday through Friday from 12 to 1:15 p.m.
“The food pantry is an essential resource that helps to ensure every Penn State Brandywine student has equitable access to their basic needs, allowing them to focus on their education rather than daily insecurities around food or essentials,” said Murphy.
“This initiative reflects Brandywine’s broader commitment to fostering a campus environment rooted in access, dignity and care — values that empower every student, regardless of background, to thrive academically and personally.”
The pantry offers non-perishable food items, including breakfast bars, ramen, soup, oatmeal, fruit cups and more. In addition, it offers non-food items, including toiletries and personal hygiene products, to support every student with access to necessities that contribute to overall health and well-being.
The pantry runs on a point system designed to promote fairness and flexibility. Each item in the pantry is valued between one to three points, and students receive 15 points per week to select what best supports them. Toiletries, feminine products and other hygiene items are free to guarantee that personal care and dignity are never compromised. Volunteers and staff are available to assist students to make the process smooth and supportive.
The pantry is supported through donations from members of the Brandywine community, including faculty, staff, students and community partners like the Delaware Valley Christian Church and the Rotary Club of Media.
