WYOMISSING, Pa. — Penn State will celebrate its 11th GivingTuesday on Dec. 2 — and Penn State Berks invites alumni and friends to be a part of the event by making a gift to support Thun Library.
“After last year’s incredible first annual Berks Athletics Day of Giving with an impressive 139 donors who contributed, let’s harness that momentum to support our most important building on campus. Thun Library serves us all — students, faculty, staff and the community,” said Devin McCoy, associate director of campus giving at Penn State Berks.
The library is the third-busiest across the University. Support is needed to provide for the growing costs and demands of Penn State Berks students — especially computer labs, their maintenance, and access to the one of the largest library of databases in the world. Examples of how GivingTuesday support will make a difference include:
-
Updated spaces and equipment, such as remodeling the Cohen Lounge and study rooms, which haven’t been remodeled since 2000, to reflect changes in information access.
-
Enhancing the Makerspace by expanding the offering of projects, crafts, tools and supplies and continuing a thriving student engagement trend.
-
Collections funds to address rising book prices, even as funding has been reduced by nearly 40%.
True to Penn State GivingTuesday tradition, the celebration is kicking off early on Monday, Dec. 1, at 18:55 (6:55 p.m. EST) — a nod to the year in which the University was founded. Those interested in contributing to Thun Library before December can make an early gift on Penn State’s GivingTuesday event page.
“This year at Berks, GivingTuesday will be our chance to show support for all people and programs that shape our campus and community. By supporting our greatest shared resource, it will be a day to remind our friends and neighbors that We Are a community that stands beside one another and invests in a better, brighter future together at Berks,” McCoy said
Gifts made on GivingTuesday advance the University’s historic land-grant mission to serve and lead. Through philanthropy, alumni and friends are helping students to join the Penn State family and prepare for lifelong success; driving research, outreach and economic development that grow our shared strength and readiness for the future; and increasing the University’s impact for families, patients and communities across the commonwealth and around the world.
