Penn State Berks to celebrate Cybersecurity Awareness Month

BERKS, Pa. — In recognition of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the Penn State Berks Department of Information Sciences and Technology will host several events and activities to increase awareness about cybersecurity issues and best practices. These events are geared towards students, faculty, staff, high school students and educators, and the community.

STEM Today and Tomorrow Conference

Friday, Oct. 17, Penn State Berks

This conference is designed for 10th and 11th grade students interested in studies and careers in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. Students will participate in workshops conducted by Penn State Berks faculty, staff and research students. The workshops will include interactive exercises and laboratory activities, as well as career information and time for questions.

Securing the Future: AI-Powered Cyber Resilience for Critical Infrastructures in the 6G Era

Tuesday, Oct.21, 5 p.m., Zoom  

Current students and local industry professionals are invited to an artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity webinar hosted by Burak Kantarci. Kantarci serves as a professor and the University Research Chair in AI-Enabled Secure Networking for Smart Critical Infrastructures in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Ottawa. HackPSU

Saturday, Oct. 25, Penn State University Park

Penn State Berks students will travel to University Park to participate in HackPSU, Penn State’s student-run 24-hour hackathon that is held twice a year. Teams of students compete for prizes in various sponsored challenges in tracks such as Sustainability, Generative AI and Entrepreneurship. IT and Cybersecurity Career Pathways Panel

Penn State Berks, 121 Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building

Students, faculty, staff and the local community are invited to hear from Penn State Berks Information Science Technology alumni will discuss their background and experience in IT and cybersecurity careers.
