UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State students can put their creativity, communication skills and passion for sustainability into action through “Green the Feed,” a University-wide social media competition.
“Green the Feed,” sponsored by the Bellisario College’s Sustainability Council, is open to all current Penn State undergraduate or graduate students at every campus. Individual students or teams of up to four are allowed, and entries must include three to five social media posts with images, carousels or short-form video designed for Instagram, TikTok or YouTube. Recommended video length is 30 to 90 seconds per post.
Submissions must spotlight one or more critical sustainability issues facing the University community. Students may choose from a wide range of topics, including climate change and carbon emissions, waste reduction and recycling, energy or water conservation, sustainable food systems, environmental justice and campus-based sustainability initiatives.
Winning teams will receive cash prizes of $500 for first place, $300 for second and $200 for third. In addition to prize money, the Bellisario College Sustainability Council may share the winning posts on social media channels.
Participants will submit their entries through an online form. They also may choose to publicly share their posts using the hashtag #GreenTheFeed. Submissions will be accepted April 1–7, and winners will be announced on Earth Day, April 22.
A panel of Penn State faculty, staff and graduate students will serve as judges. Submissions will be judged on four primary criteria: accuracy and understanding of the issue, creativity and appeal, relevance to the Penn State community, and potential for engagement and shareability.
