UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — A sports-highlight show produced by Penn State students earned a first-place finish in the 2025 Keystone Pro Media Awards sponsored the Pennsylvania News Media Association.
The Nov. 1, 2024, episode of “After the Whistle” was named Best Sportscast, topping entries from many professional news outlets across the state in the annual contest. Only TV stations in the biggest markets, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, were not included in the contest.
The show was one of several winners produced by students in the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications. Other award-winning, Penn State student-produced shows were:
- Best Newscast: Second Place, “Centre County Report” (Dec. 13, 2024)
- Best Weathercast: Second Place, “Centre County Report” (Nov. 19, 2024 / Tyler Hughes)
- Best Sports Feature: Second Place, "The Brotherhood: Rugby Club Aims to Grow the Sport in Pennsylvania” (Ryan Eslinger)
- Best Sports Coverage: Second Place, “Centre County is Key Spot For Fastest Growing High School Sport” (Savannah Wood)
- Best Public Service: Honorable Mention, “Young Voters: U.S. and U.K. share similar challenges” (Olivia Dunne)
- Best Sportscast: Honorable Mention, “Centre County Report” (Sept. 24, 2024 / Kenny Ojeikere)
