UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Fourteen Penn State entries were selected as winners in their categories of the annual Golden Quill Awards, a competition sponsored by the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania.
In addition, 15 other entries were honored as finalists — giving Penn State Student Media 29 award winners in the competition that honors professional and student excellence in print, broadcast, photography and digital journalism in western Pennsylvania and nearby counties in Ohio and West Virginia. Award winners were recognized at a special event in Pittsburgh.
Penn State’s winners were:

- “A night in the car,” Jindong Tian (Student Excellence in Video/Broadcast Journalism-Feature)
- “The Yodeling Cowboy who still races sprint cars past 90,” Alexandra Wenskoski (Student Excellence in Written Journalism-Profile)
- “Women-run business celebrates 35 years,” Eva Hines (Student Excellence in Video/Broadcast Journalism-Profile)
- “This is my motherland,” Alli Satterfield (Student Excellence in Written Journalism-Culture and Entertainment)

Penn State’s 29 award-winning entries spanned 15 categories, and student submissions from the University swept all the awards for sports photo and all the awards for video/broadcast journalism-profile.
