UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — An award-winning filmmaker will participate in a question-and-answer session about a documentary that has screened at nearly two dozen festivals around the world when the film makes its debut Oct. 1 at Penn State.

Will Thwaites, the director and producer of “Crime & Parody,” will be on the University Park campus for the event that begins at 7 p.m. in Carnegie Cinema (113 Carnegie Building). After a screening of the 87-minute film, he’ll discuss it and his work overall with Gustavo Rosa, an assistant professor in the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications.

The free public session is part of a semester-long series of weekly film screenings and discussions, sponsored by the Uncanny Valley Film Club. Screenings happen every Thursday night in Carnegie Cinema.

“Crime & Parody” follows the story of an amateur comedian gets jailed for political satire.

Thwaites was named Best Director-Feature for the film at the Atlanta Documentary Film Festival.

Thwaites’s many credits include producer for “My Next Guest with David Letterman” on Netflix, producer for “Full Swing” on Netflix and producer for “World War II with Tom Hanks” on the HISTORY Channel.

He has also served as a producer on programs that have appeared on AMC, Amazon Prime Video, AMC, PBS and other outlets.
