UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Independent, creator-driven journalism is one of the fastest growing segments of journalism and storytelling, and the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications has scheduled a daylong session Oct. 16 that focuses on the topic to benefit students and inform community members interested in the future of journalism.
The Creator and Entrepreneurial Journalism Summit features 11 different presenters, including six Penn State alumni. Sessions begin at 9 a.m. and run until 4 p.m. in the Bellisario Media Center, housed in Willard Building on the University Park campus.
All the sessions are free, and the event will conclude with a networking reception that begins at 4:30 p.m.
Session topics during the day include:
-
An overview of the emerging creator journalism space, led by Liz Kelly Nelson, a former Vox and Gannett executive who now leads Project C, a teaching and consulting organization for people considering entrepreneurial journalism ventures, and alumnus Chris Krewson (class of 1998), executive director of LION Publishers, a journalism support organization with more than 600 local digital news organizations across the U.S. and Canada.
-
A look at how traditional news organizations can partner with independent journalists and news influencers, based on research and experimental collaborations sponsored by the American Press Institute.
-
