ERIE, Pa. — Nearly 200 people completed the Run for Women 5K run/walk at Penn State Behrend on Aug. 30. The event, which is hosted by the Women’s Engagement Council (WEC), is a celebration of movement, community and all levels of athletic ability.
The youngest participant was 6 years old. The oldest was 83.
“This event has such great energy,” said Heather Cass, the race director and a WEC board member. “It’s one of those mornings where you leave feeling genuinely happy that you showed up.”
Corrine Petrus, of Erie, ran the fastest time in the women’s brackets. She finished the race in 22:21.93. Abigail Frederick, of Clarion, was second, finishing in 22:46.58.
Landon White, of Albion, was the fastest male runner. He finished in 19:21.53.
Several walkers pushed strollers. Others walked their dogs. All were invited to post-race servings of Berkey Creamery ice cream near the finish line, outside the Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Center.
