Behrend women’s volleyball team wins AMCC championship

The Penn State Behrend women’s volleyball team won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship with a 3-2 defeat of top-ranked Mt. Aloysius. Cadence Jones, a sophomore from North East, and Kylie Fehlman, a sophomore from Warren, were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The team defeated Penn State Altoona, 3-1, in the semifinal round. The Lions face the La Verne Leopards in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 20.

Behrend’s basketball, soccer, cross country, wrestling and bowling teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Men’s basketball

  • Franciscan 80, Penn State Behrend 65

Jacob Dunkle, a freshman from Washington, led the Lions with 21 points and two blocks. Mason Blankenberg, a senior from Ontario, New York, scored 13 points.

Women’s basketball

  • Penn State Behrend 68, Oberlin 56

Morgan Altavilla, a senior from Pittsburgh, scored 22 points. Madilyn Boyer, a senior from Saxonburg, scored 18 points and had five rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Women’s soccer

  • Calvin 1, Penn State Behrend 0

The Lions exited the NCAA Tournament with the loss to Calvin. Goalkeeper Riley Morningstar, a senior from North Huntingdon, made seven saves. The team ends its season with a record of 15-4-2.

Men’s cross country

  • Thirteenth (of 27 teams) at the NCAA Regional Championships

Ethan Vaughan, a freshman from Pittsburgh, placed 49th in a field of 187 runners. He completed the 8K race in 26:40.9. Peyton Brewer, a junior from Erie, placed 54th, finishing in 26:48.4.

Women’s cross country

  • Sixteenth (of 23 teams) at the NCAA Regional Championships

Bethany Litwiler, a senior from Reynolds, placed 82nd in a field of 162 runners. She completed the 6K race in 24:35.1. Lindsey Hartle, a senior from Pittsburgh, placed 92nd, finishing in 24:58.0.

Wrestling

  • Penn State Behrend 39, Washington & Jefferson 17
  • Penn State Behrend 24, Lycoming 23
  • Rochester Institute of Technology 27, Penn State Behrend 17

Cole Neil, a junior from St. Marys, and Abraham Keep, a junior from Girard, were undefeated at the Behrend Duals. Neil finished with a pin, a major decision and a 4-1 decision in the 141-pound weight class. Keep swept the 197-pound bouts.

The Lions placed second out of seven teams at the AMCC First Round Robin, which was held at Eastland Bowl in Erie.
