Behrend women’s tennis team wins AMCC championship

ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend women’s tennis team defeated Penn State Altoona, 4-1, to win a second consecutive Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship. Tamanna Sharma, a senior from Brampton, Canada, and Lauren Burkley, a sophomore from Irwin, were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The team defeated Mt. Aloysius in the tournament semifinals, 4-0.

Behrend’s soccer, volleyball, cross-country, swimming and diving, golf and water polo teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Men’s soccer

  • Penn State Behrend 3, La Roche 0
  • Penn State Behrend 6, Pitt-Bradford 2

Reilly Nickles, a senior from Pittsburgh, and Shaun Kamwendo, a freshman from Dakar, Senegal, each scored two goals against Pitt-Bradford.

Women’s soccer

  • Penn State Behrend 6, La Roche 0
  • Penn State Behrend 12, Pitt-Bradford 0

Bri Ross, a freshman from Springdale, scored three goals against Pitt-Bradford. Chloe Hart, a freshman from Pittsburgh, scored twice.

Women’s volleyball

  • La Roche 3, Penn State Behrend 0
  • Penn State Behrend 3, Pitt-Bradford 1

Cadence Jones, a sophomore from North East, had a match-high 22 kills against Pitt-Bradford. Brynne Smith, a sophomore from Butler, had 22 assists and 10 digs in the loss to La Roche.

Men’s cross-country

  • Fifteenth (of 26 teams) at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble

Ethan Vaughan, a freshman from Pittsburgh, placed 47th in a field of 178 runners. He finished the 8K race in 26:39.5.

Women’s cross-country

  • Eighteenth (of 25 teams) at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble

Lindsey Hartle, a senior from Pittsburgh, placed 73rd in a field of 167 runners. She finished the 6K race in 24:33.4.

Men’s swimming and diving

Isaac Stoeckle, a sophomore from Pittsburgh, won the 100 backstroke (51.68) and the 200 backstroke (1:59.06) at the SUNY Geneseo Quad Meet.

Women’s swimming and diving

Camryn Watters, a junior from Greensburg, won the 100 backstroke (59.17) and the 200 backstroke (2:13.62) at the SUNY Geneseo Quad Meet. Kaitlyn True, a freshman from Denton, Texas, won the 500 freestyle, finishing in 5:27.27. Kallie Smith, a sophomore from Oil City, won the 200 IM, finishing in 2:15.26.

Men’s golf

  • Fifth (of eight teams) at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championships

Johnny Palmieri, a sophomore from Warren, placed eighth in a field of 40 golfers. He finished with a two-day score of 155. James Kinghorn, a freshman from Mars, placed 16th, finishing with a 159.

Men’s water polo

  • Penn State Behrend 19, Connecticut 12
  • Augustana 21, Penn State Behrend 13
  • Johns Hopkins 26, Penn State Behrend 9
  • Austin 14, Penn State Behrend 13

Nick Thompson, a sophomore from Hudsonville, Michigan, scored seven goals against Connecticut and five more against Austin. Goalie Andy Zhuri, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, made 12 saves against Augustana.
