Behrend women’s soccer team wins AMCC championship

ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend women’s soccer team won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship, defeating Pitt-Greensburg, 7-0. Lizzie Hoff, a senior from Moon Township, and Sydney Felton, a sophomore from Moon Township, each scored two goals.

Hoff, Marlene Andrade and Lindsey Pawlawski were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The team advances to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Behrend’s basketball, volleyball, swimming and diving, wrestling, bowling and water polo teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Men’s basketball

  • Penn State Behrend 94, Fredonia 67

Jacob Dunkle, a freshman from Washington, scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds in his first collegiate start. He also had two assists. Matthew McDonough, a senior from Pittsburgh, scored 16 points.

Women’s basketball

  • Penn State Behrend 83, Brockport 76

Morgan Altavilla, a senior from Pittsburgh, scored 20 points. Madilyn Boyer, a senior from Saxonburg, scored 16 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds.

Women’s volleyball

  • Penn State Behrend 3, Mt. Aloysius 2

Cadence Jones, a sophomore from North East, had a match-high 28 kills and 17 digs. Alani Salas-Garcia, a junior from Jacksonville, Florida, had 10 kills and a career-high 24 digs.

Men’s swimming and diving

  • Penn State Behrend 181, Mt, Union 107

Anthony Tumino, a senior from Hershey, won the 50 free (21.78) and the 100 free (48.54). Will Perham, a senior from Upper St. Clair, won the 100 breaststroke (58.23) and the 200 breaststroke (2:12.24). Isaac Stoeckle, a sophomore from Pittsburgh, won the 100 backstroke (51.29). All three swam in the 200 medley relay, which the Lions won in 1:34.07. Tumino and Stoeckle swam in the 400 free relay, which the Lions won in 3:14.92.

Women’s swimming and diving

  • Penn State Behrend 153, Mt. Union 151

Jadyn Danylko, a senior from Erie, won the 100 butterfly (1:00.27) and the 200 butterfly (2:21.09). Marin O’Lone, a junior from Edinboro, won the 100 backstroke (1:03.66) and the 200 backstroke (2:18.33). Camryn Watters, a junior from Greensburg, won the 50 free (25.01). Kallie Smith, a sophomore from Oil City, won the 200 IM (2:21.33). Danylko, Smith and Watters swam in the 200 medley relay, which the Lions won in 1:52.98. O’Lone, Smith and Watters swam in the 400 free relay, which the Lions won in 3:45.64.

Wrestling

Mason Savitz, a freshman from Corry, won the 165-pound weight class at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational. He finished with a pin, an 11-5 decision and a major decision. Evan Whiteside, a senior from Monroeville, placed third in the 125-pound class.

Lillie Holt, a senior from Pulaski, was first in a field of 77 bowlers after day one of the BR Pat Lacey Memorial Tournament in Latrobe. She bowled a 238 in the second match against Ursuline and finished the day with a 193.80 average.

Men’s water polo

  • Penn State Behrend 13, Connecticut College 8
  • Penn State Behrend 17, Wheaton 7
  • Augustana 17, Penn State Behrend 7

Nick Thompson, a sophomore from Hudsonville, Michigan, scored five goals against Connecticut College. Ryan Carpico, a senior from Skippack, scored four.
