Behrend water polo team wins twice at W&J Invitational

ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend men’s water polo team won two of its four matches at the two-day Washington & Jefferson Invitational. Owen Kroh, a sophomore from Flower Mound, Texas, scored three goals in each match on the second day of competition. Goalkeeper Andy Zhuri, a junior from Houston, Texas, finished the day with 18 saves.

Ivo Tagliani, a sophomore from Southlake, Texas, scored three goals in each game on the first day.

The Lions played four matches:

  • Penn State Behrend 15, Washington & Jefferson 5
  • Connecticut College 14, Penn State Behrend 12
  • McKendree 21, Penn State Behrend 15
  • Penn State Behrend 13, Wheaton 8

Behrend’s soccer, cross-country, volleyball, golf and tennis teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Men’s soccer

  • Penn State Behrend 2, Alfred State 1
  • Penn State Behrend 1, Buffalo State 1
  • Penn State Behrend 1, Waynesburg 0

Andy Jones, a senior from Girard, scored the goal against Waynesburg. Goalkeeper Connor Cross, a junior from Erie, made seven saves.

Women’s soccer

  • Penn State Behrend 5, Brockport 1
  • Penn State Behrend 3, Marietta 0
  • Penn State Behrend 4, Grove City 4

Sara Kenst, a sophomore from Hampton, scored three goals against Grove City. Gabriella Green, a freshman from Waterford, made seven saves in the game, which was her first collegiate start.

Rachel Sickeri, a senior from DuBois, scored two goals and had two assists against Brockport.

Women’s cross-country

  • Seventh (of eight teams) at the St. John Fisher Rodenbeck Invitational

Kelsey Hanna, a sophomore from Cranberry Township, paced the Lions, finishing the 4K race in 16:15.8. She placed 18th in a field of 109 runners.

Grace Nesko, a junior from New Kensington, finished in 17:15.9. She placed 43rd.

Women’s volleyball

  • Penn State Behrend 3, St. Vincent 0
  • Penn State Behrend 3, Westminster 2
  • Penn State Behrend 3, Bethany 0
  • Grove City 3, Penn State Behrend 1

Cadence Jones, a junior from North East, had 19 kills and 13 digs in the loss to Grove City. Olivia Swinarski, a senior from Harborcreek, added 14 kills. Brynne Smith, a junior from Butler, finished the match with 41 assists, nine digs, two aces and one block assist.

Men’s golf

  • Fifth (of 12 teams) at the Pitt-Bradford Kickoff Classic

James Kinghorn, a sophomore from Mars, placed second in a field of 58 golfers. He shot a 70. Evan Smith, a junior from Fairview, tied for 16th place. He shot a 79.

Women’s tennis

  • Penn State Behrend 5, Westminster 2

Jana Kamel, a senior from Cairo, Egypt, won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Enisa Siljkovic, a junior from Erie, won at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-0.
