ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend men’s volleyball team opened its 2026 season with wins against Hiram and SUNY Poly. The Lions host Grove City on Jan. 30.

The team forced Nichols to a fifth set at the two-day Nazareth Tournament:

  • Nichols 3, Penn State Behrend 2
  • Penn State Behrend 3, SUNY Poly 1
  • Nazareth 3, Penn State Behrend 0
  • Penn State Behrend 3, Hiram 0

Joseph Sciscio, a senior from Warrington, had 19 kills against SUNY Poly. Luke Mumpower, a senior from North Huntingdon, had 24 assists and eight digs.

Behrend’s basketball, track and field, swimming and diving and wrestling teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Men’s basketball

  • Penn State Behrend 70, Carlow 50
  • Penn State Behrend 70, Pitt-Bradford 48

Mason Blankenberg, a senior from Ontario, New York, scored a season-high 23 points against Pitt-Bradford. Matthew McDonough, a senior from Pittsburgh, scored 22 points against Carlow.

Women’s basketball

  • Penn State Behrend 90, Carlow 59
  • Penn State Behrend 114, Pitt-Bradford 39

Morgan Altavilla, a senior from Pittsburgh, scored 22 points against Carlow. Emma Marsteller, a sophomore from Sandy Lake, scored a career-high 21 points against Pitt-Bradford. She was 6-for-7 at the free-throw line.

Men’s track and field

Lee Qualk, a freshman from Coal Center, won the long jump at Houghton, clearing a distance of 7.12 meters. Alex Cotton, a senior from Saxonburg, won the shot put, completing a throw of 15.45 meters. Derek Hillhouse won the high jump, clearing a height of 1.89 meters. Ethan Vaughan, a freshman from Pittsburgh, won the mile run, finishing in 4:30. He placed third in the 3,000-meter race, finishing in 9:17.51.

Women’s track and field

Caroline McDevitt, a sophomore from Pittsburgh, placed second in the 400-meter race at Houghton, finishing in 1:04.10. Becca O’Neil, a freshman from King of Prussia, placed second in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.02 meters.

Men’s swimming and diving

  • Penn State Behrend 172, Nazareth 73

Nicolin Pierce, a junior from Erie, set a team record in the 100 IM, finishing in 1:03.85. He also won the 200 free (2:05.22) and the 200 backstroke (2:21.33). Brady Meyer, a freshman from Lancaster, New York, won the 800 free (9:12.54) and the 200 butterfly (2:25.88). Will Perham, a senor from Upper St. Clair, won the 100 backstroke (1:03.13) and the 200 breaststroke (2:39.0).

Women’s swimming and diving

Penn State Behrend 157, Nazareth 125

Marin O’Lone, a junior from Edinboro, won the 200 backstroke, finishing in 2:29.54. She also set individual records in the 50 free and 50 backstroke. Camryn Watters, a junior from Greensburg, won the 100 backstroke, finishing in 1:04.81. Jadyn Danylko, a senior from Erie, won the 200 butterfly, finishing in 2:36.37.

Wrestling

  • Penn State Behrend 50, Waynesburg 3

Zach Dellinger, a senior from Buffalo, New York, won the 125-pound bout, pinning his opponent in 56 seconds. Two other Behrend wrestlers won by pin: Logan Milligan, a freshman from Pittsburgh, won the 141-pound bout and Colton Minerva, a senior from North Huntingdon, won the 149-pound bout.

Louie DeJulia, a freshman from Transfer, placed third at the Jamestown Community College Open. DeJulia, who wrestled in the 197-pound class, finished the day with three pins, one major decision and one loss.
