Behrend track-and-field athletes compete in NCAA Division III championships

ERIE, Pa. — Three members of the Penn State Behrend men’s track and field team competed in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The events were held at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Lee Qualk, a freshman from Coal Center, placed 15th in the long jump. He completed 7.05-meter jumps on his first and third attempts.

Qualk entered the championships ranked fifth in Division III. He set the Behrend record for long jump on April 4 at the Slippery Rock Invitational, completing a 7.41-meter jump.

Charlie Motter, a sophomore from Oil City, placed 18th in the javelin. He completed a 56.57-meter throw on his second attempt.

Motter was the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference champion in Javelin. His season included a personal-best throw of 61.26 meters.

Alex Cotton, a senior from Saxonburg, placed 19th in the shot put. He completed a 16.11-meter throw.

Cotton entered the tournament ranked 24th in the shot put. His season-best throw came at the Akron Last Chance meet, with a distance of 16.67 meters.

All three student-athletes were named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III All-Region Outdoor Team.
