ERIE, Pa. — Penn State Behrend track-and-field athlete Charlie Motter won the javelin event at the recently held All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference championships in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. Motter, a sophomore from Oil City, won the event with his final throw — a personal-best distance of 61.26 meters.
Behrend sprinter Carter Tobin placed second in the 100-meter race. Tobin, a sophomore from Irwin, finished in 10.65 seconds.
Tobin also ran in the 4x100 relay. The Behrend team, which included Dominic Marino, Jake Egizio and Brandon Konieczki, placed fifth, finishing in 41.94 seconds.
In the women’s events, Julia Balaski, a senior from Mercer, led the Lions with a 15th-place finish in the javelin. She completed a 33.59-meter throw.
Norah Keeney, a sophomore from Ontario, New York, placed 15th in the discus with a 38.62-meter throw.
Behrend’s baseball and softball teams also were in action last week, competing in the NCAA Division III tournaments. Here are the scores and highlights:
Baseball

The Lions exited the NCAA Division III tournament with an extra-innings loss to Christopher Newport. The team carried a 9-2 lead into the seventh inning, paced by Tyler Burick, a sophomore from Harbor Creek, who hit a triple and a double and earned two RBIs. Andrew Bredel, a junior from Clinton, pitched 6.1 innings, striking out seven batters.
Softball
- Huntingdon 5, Penn State Behrend 0
- Texas Lutheran 10, Penn State Behrend 0
The Lions exited the NCAA Division III tournament with losses to Huntingdon and No. 3 Texas Lutheran. The team ends its season with a 32-11 record.
