Behrend men’s swimming and diving team wins SUNYAC championship

ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend men’s swimming and diving team won its first State University of New York Athletic Conference championship in a four-day meet in Buffalo, New York. The women’s team placed second.

The men’s team defeated the previous winner, Cortland, by 117 points. Will Perham, a senior from Upper St. Clair, won the 200 breaststroke, finishing in 2:04.51. Glenn Fowkes, a junior from Vandergrift, won the 200 backstroke, finishing in 1:51.62.

Anthony Tumino, a senior from Hershey, won the 100 freestyle, finishing in 45.85.

Isaac Stoeckle, a sophomore from Pittsburgh, set a team record in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 48.20. He won the event and was named Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet.

The women’s team placed second, losing only to Cortland, which repeated as SUNYAC champions. Camryn Watters, a junior from Greensburg, won the 200 backstroke, finishing in 2:04.21, and the 100 backstroke, which she finished in 56.69. Kaitlyn True, a freshman from Denton, Texas, won the 1,650 freestyle, finishing in 18:01.12.

Jadyn Danylko, a senior from Erie, won the 100 butterfly, finishing in 59.03.

Behrend’s basketball, volleyball, track and field, tennis and water polo teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Men’s basketball

  • Penn State Behrend 60, Mt. Aloysius 57
  • Penn State Behrend 71, La Roche 45

The Lions won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference regular-season championship with the win over La Roche. The team is 15-1 in conference action and will host the AMCC tournament. Jacob Dunkle, a freshman from Washington, scored 24 points against La Roche. Matt McDonough, a senior from Pittsburgh, scored 20.

Women’s basketball

  • Penn State Behrend 83, Mt. Aloysius 71
  • Penn State Behrend 82, La Roche 71

The team won the AMCC regular-season championship with the win over Mt. Aloysius. The team is 15-1 in conference action and will host the post-season tournament. Alaina Fabin, a sophomore from Indiana, scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against La Roche. Morgan Altavilla, a senior from Pittsburgh, scored 18 points.

Men’s volleyball

  • Penn State Behrend 3, Carlow 0
  • Penn State Behrend 3, St. John Fisher 1
  • Penn State Behrend 3, Carlow 0
  • Buffalo State 3, Penn State Behrend 2

Jack Wilcox, a sophomore from Erie, recorded 18 kills and 19 digs against Buffalo State. Daniel Easly, a senior from Erie, had 12 digs and 10 kills.

Men’s track and field

Carter Tobin, a sophomore from Irwin, won the 60-meter sprint at the Houghton Last Chance Qualifier. He finished in 6.91 seconds. Jake Egizio, a junior from Canonsburg, won the 200-meter race, finishing in 22.30 seconds. Lee Qualk, a freshman from Coal Center, won the long jump, clearing a distance of 6.86 meters. Alex Cotton, a senior from Saxonburg, won the shot put with a throw of 15.37 meters.

Women’s track and field

Abigail Falk, a freshman from Waterford, won the 60-meter sprint (8.13 seconds) and the 200-meter race (27.71 seconds) at the Houghton Last Chance Qualifier. Morgan Martin, a freshman from Corry, won the pole vault, clearing a height of 2.82 meters. Lindsey Hartle, a senior from Pittsburgh, won the 3,000-meter race, finishing in 10:48.75.

Men’s tennis

  • Penn State Behrend 6, Franciscan 1

Graham Louis, a sophomore from Erie, won at No. 2 singles, finishing 6-4, 7-5. He and Owen Sinnott, a junior from Erie, won at No. doubles, 6-4.

Women’s water polo

  • Gannon 21, Penn State Behrend 11
  • Washington & Jefferson 19, Penn State Behrend 11

Karis Barth, a freshman from Flower Mound, Texas, scored four goals against Gannon. She scored three more against Washington & Jefferson.
