ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend men’s soccer team defeated Franciscan, 2-1, in non-conference action on Sept. 20. Bryce Large, a sophomore from Charleroi, and Reilly Nickles, a senior from Pittsburgh, each scored.
Goalkeeper Anthony Scalise, a sophomore from North Huntingdon, made four saves.
Earlier in the week, the Lions lost to John Carroll, 2-3. The team hosts Mount Union on Wednesday.
Behrend’s volleyball, cross country and golf teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:
Women’s soccer
- Penn State Behrend 3, Grove City 0
- Penn State Behrend 1, Fredonia 0
Lizzie Hoff, a senior from Moon Township, scored in the 86th minute against Fredonia. Goalkeeper Riley Morningstar, a senior from North Huntingdon, made six saves.
Women’s volleyball
- Penn State Behrend 3, Baldwin Wallace 2
- Penn State Behrend 3, Geneseo 0
Cadence Jones, a sophomore from North East, had 21 kills, 15 digs and six service aces against Baldwin Wallace. Brynne Smith, a sophomore from Butler, had 42 assists, eight digs and seven kills.
Men’s cross country
- Twelfth (of 24 teams) at the Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational
Aidan Reinsel, a senior from North East, paced the Lions, finishing the 8K race in 27:10.0. He placed 69th in a field of 312 runners. Alex Haskins, a senior from North East, finished in 27:13.7.
Women’s cross country
- Fourteenth (of 24 teams) at the Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational
Bethany Litwiler, a senior from Reynolds, finished the 6K race in 25:09, placing 91st in a field of 253 runners. Fiona Bunnell, a freshman from Philadelphia, finished in 25:30 — her fastest time of the season.
Men’s golf
- Third (of five teams) at the Hilbert Invitational
JR Hufnagel, a junior from Evans City, led the Lions with a season-best 77. He placed fifth in a field of 26 golfers.
