Behrend baseball team wins AMCC regular-season title

ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend baseball team won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference regular-season title, building a 24-8 season and posting a 10-4 record in conference play. Head Coach Paul Benim earned his 800th career win in a split with Pitt-Greensburg.

The team had a five-game home stand this week:

  • Allegheny 10, Penn State Behrend 9
  • Pitt-Greensburg 5, Penn State Behrend 1
  • Penn State Behrend 10, Pitt-Greensburg 1
  • Penn State Behrend 7, Mt. Union 8
  • Penn State Behrend 7, Fredonia 3

Colin Bolla, a junior from Fairview, earned his 200th career strikeout in the first game against Pitt-Greensburg. Tyler Burick, a sophomore from Erie, hit a solo home run against Allegheny. He also had a triple and two RBIs against Pitt-Greensburg.

Behrend’s softball, track and field and tennis teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Meghan Swain, a senior from Sugarcreek, Ohio, hit a three-run home run in the nightcap against Waynesburg. She hit a triple and two doubles in the opener against Alfred State.

Abby Tingley, a senior from Union City, pitched a complete game in the third matchup with Alfred. She earned her 300th career strikeout.

Men’s track and field

Carter Tobin, a sophomore from Erie, won the 200-meter race at the Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational. He finished in 21.68 seconds. Alex Cotton, a senior from Saxonburg, won the shot put event with a 16.32-meter throw.

Nicolin Pierce, a junior from Erie, won the 800-meter race, finishing in a season-best 1:56.72. Derek Hillhouse, a senior from Erie, won the high jump, clearing a height of 1.85 meters.

Women’s track and field

Caroline Lewis, a sophomore from Erie, won the javelin event at the Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational. She completed a throw of 33.94 meters.

Behrend’s 4x100 relay team — Chloe Yazembiak, Abigail Falk, Caroline McDevitt and Anna Buck — won, finishing in a season-best 33.94 seconds.

Women’s tennis

  • Mount Union 6, Penn State Behrend 1

Enisa Siljkovic, a sophomore from Erie, won at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-3. She teamed with Jana El Sayed, a Senior from Cairo, Egypt, to win at No. 1 doubles, 6-1.
