Behrend baseball and softball teams win AMCC titles

ERIE, Pa. — Penn State Behrend’s baseball and softball teams won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championships on May 9. The baseball team defeated Alfred State, 12-6. The softball team defeated Penn State Altoona, 8-7.

The baseball team claimed its third consecutive AMCC title. The win earned the team an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

The team won the regular-season title and was undefeated in the AMCC tournament:

  • Penn State Behrend 6, Pitt-Greensburg 4
  • Penn State Behrend 20, Mt. Aloysius 2

Adam Cooper, David Gibson and Sawyer Prince were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The softball team won its 12th AMCC title, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The Lions were in tight games throughout the tournament:

  • Penn State Behrend 5, Mt. Aloysius 4
  • Penn State Behrend 3, Pitt-Greensburg 2

Alexia Brown, Hannah Smith and Megan Swain were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Behrend’s track and field and tennis teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Men’s track and field

Carter Tobin, a sophomore from Irwin, placed second in the 200-meter race at the Harrison Dillard Twilight Meet at Baldwin Wallace University. He finished in 21.57 seconds.

Charlie Motter, a sophomore from Oil City, placed fourth in the javelin, completing a 52.87-meter throw.

Women’s track and field

Braylee Lukehart, a sophomore from Reynoldsville, placed sixth in the javelin at the Harrison Dillard Twilight Meet at Baldwin Wallace University. She completed a 33.16-meter throw.

Ana Buck, a freshman from St. Marys, placed seventh in the 100-meter sprint, finishing in 12.97 seconds.

Men’s tennis

  • Allegheny 4, Penn State Behrend 0 (NCAA tournament)
  • Penn State Behrend 4, Marymount 3

The Lions won the No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches against Marymount. Paul Flick, a junior from Erie, persevered at No. 5 singles, winning 7-5, 4-6, 7-5.
