MONACA, Pa. — Vendors specializing in health and wellness spent Wednesday at Penn State Beaver Health Fair connecting with students.
The event included interactive health demonstrations, chair massages, a caricature artist, food and give-aways.
Penn State Beaver Nurse Jessica Judy said events like the health fair are important for students. “We’re always trying to advocate for community resources, and here we have them all in one space and the students can just make their way around and find all the resources right here.”
Fourth-year student Madelyn Ronk agreed.
“I think the health fair is important for students because it allows them to get to know the community and all the organizations here. It’s a place to make connections and just get better acquainted with any kind of health services they might need and to learn about the community,” Ronk said, who is also an alcohol peer educator on campus. “It’s absolutely wonderful, just being about to talk with people in the community is very valuable.”
The event featured 32 tables, including 17 community vendors, student clubs and campus resources. Kevin Bennett, teaching professor of psychology at Penn State Beaver, also led a drum circle.
“I’m very pleased with the community turnout that we had, and I’m just so pleased to continue the legacy that former campus nurse Barb Kugel had started many years ago,” Judy said. “It just delights me to see all these students and community members come together.
