SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. – The Art Space at Penn State Schuylkill will showcase the work of artist Robert McCormick in his exhibition, "Reclamation: From Coal Dust to Hope," on display from March 1 through March 29. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, from noon to 4 p.m.

McCormick, a Pennsylvania-based artist, has been recognized for his work in the folk tradition of Frank "Wyso" Wysochansky and Jack Savitsky. His paintings reflect the landscapes, culture, and history of the Anthracite Region, capturing the evolution of the communities shaped by coal mining. From memories of his childhood in Big Mine Run — a historic Schuylkill County "Patchtown" — to the rural farmlands he now calls home, McCormick’s Modern Primitive paintings bring together acrylic, oil, watercolor, found materials, and collage to depict both real and imagined landscapes.

A special artist reception and gallery talk will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, giving visitors the opportunity to meet the artist, learn about his inspirations, and discuss his work in an intimate setting. In addition, McCormick will host a book reading of "Reclamation: From Coal Dust to Hope" from 12:20 to 1:20 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18. Both events are free and attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a discussion about the themes of resilience and transformation within his art.
