UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State School of Music in the College of Arts and Architecture will present the Symphonic Band and Concert Band in performance at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, in Eisenhower Auditorium. The evening will feature a varied program of works for winds spanning more than a century, from early 20th-century classics to contemporary compositions.
The Symphonic Band, conducted by Professor Robert Hickey, will perform "In Wartime" by David Del Tredici, "In My Father’s Eyes" by Julie Giroux, and "Fiesta Del Pacifico" by Roger Nixon. Together, the selections explore themes of reflection, remembrance and celebration.
The Concert Band, conducted by Michquelena Potlunas Ferguson, with Maria Flowers, graduate assistant conductor, will present a program featuring "Esprit de Corps" by Robert Jager, Gustav Holst’s beloved "Second Suite in F for Military Band," "You’ll Come Matilda (Endlessly Waltzing)" by Jess Langston Turner, "Be Thou My Vision" by David Gillingham, and "Halcyon Hearts" by Katahj Copley.
