UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State School of Music in the College of Arts and Architecture will present “Music in the Gardens,” a free outdoor concert featuring the Penn State Symphonic Wind Ensemble, at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10, at The Arboretum at Penn State, a unit of Penn State Outreach.
Conducted by Tonya Mitchell-Spradlin, director of Wind Band Studies, the Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform a diverse program in the picturesque setting of the Arboretum. Community members, students, faculty and visitors are invited to enjoy an evening of live music in one of Penn State's most scenic outdoor venues.
Guests are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy family-friendly activities before the performance. Food trucks will begin serving at 4 p.m. while an instrument petting zoo in the Children's Garden will give children and families the opportunity to explore and interact with a variety of musical instruments. Please note that parents need to stay within the immediate vicinity of their children. Additionally, students from the State College Music Academy will be performing throughout the Arboretum before the 6 p.m. concert.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and gather with family and friends for the free outdoor concert.
The event is free and open to the public. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 6 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to check the Penn State School of Music website and social media channels for any weather-related updates.
