Actor Delroy Lindo to visit Penn State University Park Oct. 7–8

Actor and producer Delroy Lindo, known for his many collaborations with Spike Lee, including “Da 5 Bloods,” “Crooklyn,”  “Clockers” and “Malcolm X,” will participate in a public interview with B. Stephen Carpenter II, Michael J. and Aimee Rusinko Kakos Dean in the College of Arts and Architecture, at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, in the Penn State Downtown Theatre, 146 S. Allen Street, State College. Wanda Knight, head of the Department of African American Studies, will moderate a Q&A session following the interview.

As a precursor to his visit, there will be a screening of Lee’s “Da 5 Bloods,” which stars Lindo, at 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 6, in the Carnegie Cinema, 113 Carnegie Building, facilitated by Matthew Jordan, head of the Department of Film Production and Media Studies in the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications. In addition, Lindo will lead a workshop with School of Theatre acting students on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 4:30–6 p.m., at the Downtown Theatre, facilitated by Wendell Franklin and Steve Snyder, associate professors in the School of Theatre. The public is invited to observe the workshop. Lindo’s visit is co-sponsored by the College of Arts and Architecture, the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications and the College of the Liberal Arts.

Lindo has received numerous accolades throughout his illustrious career. In addition to “Da 5 Bloods,” his filmography includes “Crooklyn,” “The Cider House Rules,” “Get Shorty,” “Gone in 60 Seconds,” and “The Harder They Fall.” In film, he’s been awarded Best Actor by the New York Film Critics Circle, National Society of Film Critics and Critics Choice Super Awards, in addition to receiving career tributes from the Gotham Awards and Santa Barbara Film Festival. On the stage, Lindo has received the Helen Hayes Award Nomination and NAACP Imagine Award for Best Actor. In addition to his collaborations with Spike Lee, he is known for his portrayal of Herald Loomis in August Wilson’s “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone.” Lindo received widespread recognition for his work in Ryan Coogler’s critical and commercial smash “Sinners” and will next star in the upcoming “Godzilla v. Kong” sequel for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures. Lindo will make his directorial debut with the feature “Jabari’s People.”
