UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — This month's Virtual Speaker Session, hosted by the Penn State Alumni Association, is set for noon on Wednesday, Oct. 22. The event will be livestreamed via Zoom, and those interested in attending can RSVP here to receive the link.
Join World War II expert Jared Frederick, associate teaching professor of history at Penn State Altoona, author of "Into the Cold Blue" and host of "Reel History," for an exclusive presentation on the new English tour inspired by the epic stories in the Apple TV+ miniseries "Masters of the Air." This talk reveals the forthcoming World War II travel experience focused on the U.S. Eighth Air Force, "The Mighty Eighth," in East Anglia. Frederick will detail the immersive itinerary, including privileged access to preserved airfields like Thorpe Abbotts and Duxford, vital to the 100th Bomb Group and so many others. Discover how this tour connects participants directly with the history and sacrifices of the American bomber boys. The engaging pre-tour conversation will include discussion on Frederick's research and the expertise he will bring to this English adventure.
Frederick has a lifelong passion for American history. Prior to his current position as an associate teaching professor of history at Penn State Altoona, Frederick served as a park ranger at Gettysburg National Military Park and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. His latest book is "Into the Cold Blue," which he co-authored with a 101-year-old World War II pilot. He has appeared on C-SPAN, PBS, numerous National Park Service films and many online documentaries. In 2019, he acted as a guest host on Turner Classic Movies for the channel’s 25th anniversary. He also is the host of the popular YouTube channel "Reel History," which has devoted considerable time to analyze the Apple TV+ miniseries "Masters of the Air."
