Six Altoona student-athletes place in CSC Academic All-District team

GREENWOOD, Ind. — Six Penn State Altoona student-athletes from the men’s golf and men’s volleyball teams garnered academic recognition on June 16 when the College Sports Communicators announced the At-Large category of its NCAA Division III Academic All-District team.

To be eligible for a spot on an Academic All-District team, student-athletes must meet certain academic and athletic requirements. Academically, student-athletes must be at least sophomores while holding cumulative grade-point averages of 3.5 or higher. For golfers, nominees must have been in the lineup for at least 75% of their squad’s team scoring events, or in the lineup at the conference championship tournament. For volleyball, nominees must have competed in at least 90% of their team’s matches or started in at least two-thirds of the matches. Nominators could submit up to six eligible student-athletes.

Four men’s golfers and two men’s volleyball players took spots on the CSC’s NCAA Division III Academic All-District At-Large team:

Men’s golf:

  • Jack Ankeny, of Davidsville, majoring in business
  • Daniel Batrus, of Altoona, majoring in business
  • Nicholas Helsley, of Altoona, majoring in kinesiology
  • Nicky Riscica, of Newtown, majoring in business

Men’s volleyball:

  • Libero Adam Chan, of Framingham, MA, majoring in business, marketing
  • Opposite hitter Caleb Fries, of Altoona, majoring in architectural engineering
