ALTOONA, Pa. — Michele Dunleavy, 2024-25 Penn State Laureate, will offer her Rhythm in Motion workshop at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, in Room 148 of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts at Penn State Altoona.
This interactive workshop invites attendees to create short scenes and dances using a combination of movement and sound. Content will be generated by the participants in response to specific prompts, engaging in group activities, and improvisation exercises. No previous experience is required.
Dunleavy, professor of dance at Penn State's University Park campus, is known for her innovative choreography that spans tap, jazz and modern dance, and for her dedication to inclusive dance education. She has been a vital part of Penn State’s acclaimed musical theatre program since 2004.
Her contributions to the art form extend into her pedagogical practices, where she has seamlessly integrated her professional experiences into the classroom, offering students unparalleled opportunities to learn from a working artist at the top of her field. Improvisation is the foundation of Dunleavy’s artistic practice and informs her pedagogy. She has created numerous scores for improvised dance performances and regularly performs solo improvisations with live music, in nontraditional spaces
