ALTOONA, Pa. — A new book by Daniel DiLeo, associate professor of political science at Penn State Altoona, was released by Bloomsbury Press earlier this month.
In “Aristotle's Anti-Populist Art of Rhetoric: Defending the Laws Through Benign Manipulation,” DiLeo challenged recent scholarship that attributes inherent tendencies to yield politically prudent outcomes to Aristotle's rhetorical art. He then detailed how Aristotle's principal rhetorical tactics, maxims, metaphors and topics are instruments of manipulation.
