LATROBE, Pa. — For the second straight week, Penn State Altoona student-athlete Max Mottura, of Vandergrift, was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Men’s Golfer of the Week, as the league office announced its weekly recognition Wednesday, Sept. 30.
Mottura propelled the Lions to a first-place finish in The Northeast Elite on Sept. 27 and 28, including a record-setting round on day two of the tournament.

On day one of the tournament, which was played on the par-71 course at Williamsport Country Club, Mottura shot 3-over par with a 74. Round two saw him set a school record, as he fired a 5-under-par 66 to establish a new team record for the lowest round.
Mottura totaled 140 across two days to win the tournament’s individual title, placing first out of 90 golfers. As a team, Penn State Altoona won the tournament with a two-day score of 578, including a program-record round of 285 on Monday.
Through eight rounds this fall, Mottura is averaging 73.0, the third-lowest scoring average in the AMCC.
Penn State Altoona men’s golf resumes its schedule on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 5 and 6, with split-squad action at John Carroll University’s Blue Streak Invitational in Akron, Ohio, and the Saint Francis Invitational in Johnstown.
