ALTOONA, Pa. — Penn State Altoona’s history program is hosting a day-long field trip to Gettysburg on Friday, April 24, that will focus on World War II history. The cost is $20 per person.
The trip, open to students, faculty and staff, includes visits to four sites spanning American military history, presidential heritage and the nation's most hallowed commemorative grounds, offering participants a rich and varied experience of the Gettysburg area beyond its well-known Civil War legacy.
Sites on the itinerary are the World War II American Experience Museum, the Gettysburg Museum of History, the Eisenhower National Historic Site, and the Gettysburg National Cemetery, where more than 1,000 veterans of World War II are buried.
The trip will depart at 8 a.m. from the Hawthorn parking lot. Lunch options include a packed lunch or an $11 meal option at the World War II American Experience. Attendees will have dinner in their own with free time in Gettysburg's historic downtown district. The trip will return to campus at approximately 9:30 p.m.
To participate, register online, then pay the $20 fee (exact cash only) to Dorothee Hendoux-Goodman in Room 103 of the Hawthorn Building, available Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. A receipt will be provided upon payment.
